Due August 29th
A MUST: READ OR BE READ TO FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES EVERYDAY!!!!!!
Weekly “Reading Logs” will be passed out with your child’s Friday Folder and
should be returned by the following Friday.
In Addition to nightly readings, students must choose to do one of the
following. You may encourage to do all three, but one must be brought back
by next Friday.
Create a Recipe
Developing and writing real or imaginary recipes and prescriptions get
students thinking logically and creatively. During the past couple of weeks
in class, we have been coming up with “How To” procedures in a variety of
ways i.e. classroom routines/procedures, making clay and coil pots, and
maracas! “How To” text help students to predict sequence, reread/repeat for
clarity, and help scaffold students to use sequence to retell narrative
stories.
For this assignment, students should include all the necessary ingredients
and give sequential directions. Your child should use pictures, words, and
numbers to complete this recipe. It can be a real recipe or an imaginary
one.
The Moon
During the next 4-5 weeks in Science, our class will be studying the Sky.
This includes the phases of the moon. Go to the library and check out some
books about the moon. Read about why the moon looks the way it does. Then
use foil, cardboard, clay, plaster, etc. to make a model of the moon’s
surface. Write about an interesting fact you learned about the moon so that
you can share with the rest of the
class.
A, B, C’s
See how many things in your house begin with the letter A, B, C, D, etc.
Make a collection, use tally marks, pictures, or a graph of what you found.
You can try to find things from all the letters in one room or pick one
letter and try to find things in your house that begin with that letter!
