Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss’s books and characters lend themselves very well to what we will be focusing on in our class this year. First, I plan on using many of Dr. Seuss’s books to model comprehension reading strategies in class. These strategies include learning skills such as questioning, making connections, synthesizing, inferring, visualizing, and determining important ideas. Throughout the school year, I will be sending home information regarding these strategies as we learn about them in class. The second reason we will be focusing on the life of Dr. Seuss and his books is because his messages also lend themselves to Double Eagle’s “Character Counts” pillars. Each month, Double Eagle focuses on a set of character values, called a pillar. I have attached a list of pillars and a description of each. Every month, I will let you know what “Character Counts” pillar we will be focusing on. Also, a student will be selected every month for exceptional demonstration of the values represented by the pillar of character to have a special lunch with Principal Hoberg.
