Students/Parents/Guardians,
As a student of Middle School, you will have several responsibilities and
expectations to meet. One of those responsiblities is homework. Homework is
given to reinforce the skills and concepts that are taught in class and is
expected to be completed.
Every night you should have 1/2 hour of reading homework. Occassionally,
there are projects, worksheets for review and other items not finished in
class. Overall total of homework (all classes combined) per night should
take 2 to 2 1/2 hours. If it is taking you more than this time, you need to
evaluate how you are doing your homework. Are you focusing on JUST your
homework, or do you have the T.V. on in the background?
As one can see things can become rather overwhelming very quickly, so
please make sure you use your time for homework wisely.
REMINDERS...
LANGUAGE ARTS & MATH -Please remember....HOMEWORK counts as 20% of your
overall grade. HOMEWORK Nightly log is due on Fridays unless otherwise stated
when due (e.g. due to Holidays then generally is moved up to the last day
before a Holiday or Break)).
Language Arts: Each week students will be responsible to do
silent sustained reading four nights a week for thirty minutes a night. I
will accept most sources including but not limited to: Internet reading
(online magazines and other articles NOT my space, blogs, video games,
etc.), books, magazines, manuals, newspapers and comic books. Please, I ask
you not to count anything that is on television unless your student is
reading a subtitled foreign film. We will keep track of home reading on a
weekly reading log sheet that must be initialed by a guardian each night.
Students will read a total of two hours a week and weekly logs will be
collected each Friday. (Unless falls on a non school day).
