* Students should be working on their next 5 Book Bingo Summaries. They are due February 10.
* During the weekend please review your child's agenda and desk contract.
When looking at their desk contract please look to see if homework was turned
in each day and if behavior was appropriate, if you see a blank box for
behavior that means your child had no problems. If you see a short note
please discuss that behavior with your child. Please make sure to sign the
desk contract and send back with student on Monday.
If students do not have their signed desk contract on Monday, they will miss
first recess.
* Important Dates:
February 3: Walk to Jefferson for Spirit Assembly
February 2: Jefferson Registration Cards go home. Please return ASAP!
February 10: All Book Bingo Summaries due and All late work due, End of 2nd trimester
February 23: Science Fair project due, please bring to the gym before the bell rings.
Here is what is planned for the week in curriculum...
Math: Monte Vista implements the Investigation Curriculum. Students will work on decimals, mastering
place value, converting to fractions and percents.
Language Arts:
Reading: We continue to read Pictures of Hollis Woods, after reading students will complete vocabulary
work with the dictionary and answer comprehension questions.
In writing using the Six Traits of Writing: Students will begin on new writing lesson focusing on
organization and the 4 paragraph essay. Elizabeth will read aloud, How I Became a Pirate." Students
will then pick a job in which they will research the pros and cons. Students who are finished
researching will start a rough draft on writing a 4 paragraph essay on the pros and cons of the job they
selected.
Spelling: In our classroom we use the Rebecca Sitton word study program.
Students will complete a mini lesson from unit 4.
Science: Students will begin the molecules and atoms unit, working with the physical characteristics of
solids, liquids, and gases.
Social Studies:
* Students should be reading for 30 minutes every night and then logging
it on their log sheet. Log sheets will be turned in on the last day of each
month.
* It is also important that your child is reading to fulfill 5 books from
the Book Bingo grid. After reading they must write a summary on the Book
Bingo Summary page. All five summaries are due February 10. These materials
can be found on the website and in the classroom.
* Please visit our website regularly to find information about the
upcoming year. This website will
be a great communication tool that is used during the school year.
* The announcement page will post weekly updates about the classroom
curriculum and activities.
