Pequeño
the Hamster joined
our class in 2006. He was very timid in the beginning but became more outgoing
as he gradually became familiar with the sights and sounds of our classroom.
He spends most of his days sleeping, but will come out of his house when the
students feed him. Pequeño
also likes to roll around in his plastic ball. This quickly became a popular
reward choice for the class on Freetime Fridays. Pequeño
is not little anymore - he has grown so much in the last two years! We just
may have to change his name if he gets any bigger!
Squeakers the Hamster
joined our class in 2003. He would also spend most of his days sleeping, but
would come out of his house whenever he heard students reading on the book
nook bench next to his cage. Squeakers loved to eat carrots and would often
stick one whole baby carrot in his cheek pocket before carrying it back into
his house. Squeakers made it very easy for Miss Romero and the two students
assigned to clean his cage because he would hop out of the cage and into his
holding pen while the cage was being cleaned then hop right back into the cage
when they were finished. Sadly Squeakers passed away in March 2006.
