I grew up in Wentzell Lake, not far from the village of New Germany.
Many days of my childhood were spent riding my bike, building forts in the
woods and skating in the winter. I am a grade 9 graduate from New Germany
Rural High and a grade 12 graduate from Park View Education Centre.
After high school I completed a BSc. in Environmental Science and
Biology at Mount Allison Univeristy in Sackville, New Brunswick. Shortly
after my last exam at Mount Allison I was introduced to Central America
through my participation in the Environmental Leardership Program offered by
the Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Courps. I lived and worked, with tropical
animals in a small community in Costa Rica. Falling in love with Costa Rica
and the amazing people there brought me back several times after my first
visit. I travelled and worked on Organic Farms and visited the neighbouring
countries of Panama and Nicaragua. I became interested in other countries in
Central America and how I could learn and work with the amazing people who
live there.
In 2003-2004 I completed a CIDA internship in Guatemala. I worked
with an orgaization called FUNCEDESCRI in the area of community development
and medicinal plants. Living in Guatemala for eight mounths allowed me to
really begin to understand the Guatemalan people and still have time to
visit Costa Rica.
In 2005 I attended Universidad Latina in Costa Rica and studied People
and the Environment of Central America.
After all of my traveling, I decided I wanted to become a teacher. I
attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. In my
last year of studies, I traveled to Kenya in Africa to teach for six weeks.
I graduated from St. F.X. in May of 2007.
