A message from the President…
Welcome to another school year at Arlington High School. My name is
Pattiann Adams and I’m very happy to be your new PTSA president. I look
forward to the challenges it will bring. I have a daughter who is in her
junior year and a daughter who is in 7th grade and can’t wait to get to AHS.
Both my husband, Howard, and I are proud graduates of AHS … back when it was
half the school it is today!
We hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready to jump into the new
academic year! We especially welcome our new students and parents.
Your PTSA board will be working hard on your behalf this year. We will
continue to sponsor the Small School Initiative Committees, which plan
activities for each grade, encouraging each student to be involved in a
social activity with their classmates. We strongly support the house plan
that is being instituted at AHS and hope the PTSA support will help “the
small school within the big school” approach.
We will work hard to increase communication so you remain informed of
expansion plans. Last year, we instituted an email communication list and
found it to be quick way to disseminate information. We think it is well
worth the $5 membership fee just to be on that list.
We will be working with guidance to present parent information
programs that can help you navigate a large high school. Over the last years
presentations by our school safety personnel have been on college safety,
drug abuse, and internet safety. They were well received. Watch for more
events like these.
We also will continue to fund student information programs. Last year
we funded the Yellow Dress Program, a presentation on dating violence that is
shown to all health classes.
In addition, we will continue to sponsor community events that bring
us together in our school, such as the annual Winter Craft Emporium; Math,
Science, & Technology Expo; The Art Fair; and the reflections contest (this
year’s theme is “I can make a difference by…”) and we look forward to
initiating new activities bringing together the middle school and high school
communities.
I urge everyone, parents and students alike, to join the PTSA. For a
nominal fee you will be eligible to receive monthly email updates of PTSA
activities and school expansion news. In addition, the greater our membership
numbers, the greater our strength as we advocate for student needs at the
district level. Please find a membership application on the back of this
newsletter.
Remember that we are here to serve you. If there is anything you are
concerned about, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the PTSA
board. We welcome everyone to attend our monthly meetings. See the dates
listed below! It is a great way to get to see what’s happening at AHS!
    Sincerely,
   Pattiann Adams (phaaadams@optonline.net)
