The Dignity for All Students Act
www.p12.nysed.gov/dignityact/
New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act (The Dignity Act) seeks to provide the State’s public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus, and/or at a school function. The Dignity Act took effect on July 1, 2012. This legislation amended State Education Law by creating a new Article 2 – Dignity for All Students. The Dignity Act also amended a New York State Education Law regarding instruction in civility, citizenship, and character education by expanding the concepts of tolerance, respect for others and dignity to include: an awareness and sensitivity in the relations of people, including but not limited to, different races, weights, national origins, ethnic groups, religions, religious practices, mental or physical abilities, sexual orientations, gender identity, and sexes. Additionally, under The Dignity Act, schools will be responsible for collecting and reporting data regarding material incidents of discrimination and harassment. More information about The Dignity Act can be found at www.arlingtonschools.org and at www.p12.nysed.gov/dignityact/.

Earn AMS Cash While You Shop!
Stop & Shop A+ Program
Did you know that you can also support AMS when you shop? Local merchants like Stop and Shop and Target will donate a percentage of the cost of your purchases right back to our school. This helps support valuable programs that we can offer our students throughout the school year. Here is how you can help: The Stop and Shop A+ Rewards program registration begins on Friday, August 24th. Simply go to http://www.stopandshop.com/aplus and click on “register your card.” Enter your unique card number and that’s it! Then, from October 5 through March 28, 2013, you can help AMS earn cash every time you use your Stop & Shop card. Office Depot will also give back 5% of your purchases to AMS if you tell them at the register that you would like to benefit AMS in the “5% Back to Schools Program.” Our school’s registration number is 70074731, Similarly, Target has a limited time program called “Give with Target” in which you can vote for AMS and earn the school $25 gift cards. You need to have a Facebook account. Go to www.Target.com and click on the “support your school” link. Go to the link provided in the post “Give with Target”: http://tgt.bz/GWT85 . Then type in Arlington Middle School and 12603 and register your vote! For every 25 votes registered for AMS, we will be rewarded a $25 gift card. Voting ends on September 8, 2012.
