NaNoWriMo Student Comments

TEAM 5 SPEAKS OUT ON THEIR NaNoWriMo EXPERIENCES!

"In NaNoWriMo I have learend that even though I don't like writing, it's
still fun to make up a story and watch my word count grow. My story is coming
to an end and it is probably the best piece I have ever written. Sometimes
I'm surprised to see myself thinking about what to put in my story and
looking at what I have accomplished makes me feel proud of myself. I want to
give myself a pat on the back." (MD Goal reached)

"I would love to do this again next year and probably will. I love that me
being only 12 years of age I have accomplished this much in less than half a
month. I've always loved to write and this is my chance to show how good I
am." (TA 10,000/GOAL REACHED wds)

"When I started writing, I had no idea what it was going to be like. When I
write I dont' usually have a plan, but this time we had to have a plot the
first day. I am already ahead of my plotline. When I'm not writing and
something gives me a good idea I write it down." (PT Goal reached)

"The characters in my story are really affected by how I feel that particular
day, and my characters influence the story. I wasn't really surprised about
how much I thought about my story until one night I actually had a dream
about them and I used it in my story the next day...I may try to finish my
story even when NaNoWriMo is done." (SS 7000+ wds Goal reached)

"I like my story and they way it is coming out. It's fun and I don't think I
would have written this story if it hadn't been for NaNoWriMo.I like having
the word count because it makes me determined to finish my story and see
where my progress is. I learned I could write more than I thought I could."
(BM: Goal Reached)

"I learned that I like creative writing more than I thought I did because I
am on my mom's computer every night before I go to sleep and get at least 200
words done. I have 3,164 words so far. I am more than 60% done with my goal.
What I have accomplished is making me feel like I can do something if I make
a goal." (BF: Goal Reached)

"I learned I can write a novel in 30 days and that I am a better creative
writer than I thought I was. I like it more than I expected because I can see
everything in my head...I'm really connected with my characters. In a way I
am not very surprised that I think of my story when I'm not writing because
many of the elements relate to my life." (YN 8,030wds Goal Reached)

"I used to hear the words creative writing and think 'when will it be over?'
but now I just want to write." (RH Goal Reached)

"NaNoWriMo has been a great experience for me. I always hated writing because
it wasn't free; your teachers always made you write about a certain
subject...I never realized how fun it could be to write freely and not worry
about a grade...I thought it would be long, boring and hard, but now I
realize it's fun." (SC Goal Reached)

"During this month, NaNoWriMo has taught me that anyone can be a writer. All
you need is one idea, and that unlocks many more. NaNo is a great experience
for me and I love watching my word count grow. It is an amazing feeling. I've
always known that I love to write, and I want to get published eventually. I
love that you create everything and control everything in your story. I feel
very connected with my characters. I picture myself writing when I'm not. I
love what I have accomplished and I will treasure my book forever." (CB Goal
Reached)

"During the NaNo experience I have learned that I can reach the word count
goal that I set if I really try...I used to like writing essays, but now I
like creative writing more. I feel like I really know my main character."
(CW Goal Reached)

"During NaNo I have learned that I am capable of doing anything if I put my
mind to it. My story is just how I planned it and I feel like my characters
are a part of me. I'm surprised to be thinking of my story so much and I am
proud of what I have accomplished." (NH Goal Reached)

"When I'm writing NaNoWriMo in the lab it feels like I just can't stop
writing. I thought it was going to be boring, but you know what? It's not. It
feels like I'm inside the story." (AB Goal Reached)

"I never thought I could ever write almost 6,000 words...I am very proud of
my story that I started from scratch and I wrote 6000 words and the conflict
got solved. I sometimes think of my characters when I am sittng and have
nothing else to do. I passed my goal of 5000 words the first or second week.
Now I am thinking of something else to write." (TK 6000+/GOAL REACHED!)

"In NaNo I have learned to think about the positives. Writing takes hard work
and time. Creative writing is very close to me now. I have accomplished about
3000 words and I am proud of it." (JC Goal Reached)

"I learned that writing your own novel can be both fun and hard. You get to
make your own story and put in anything you want. The hard part is making
time to do it. Creative writing is a lot more fun than I first thought. I
find myself thinking about it every day and how I just want to get to a
computer to work on it." (JD Goal Reached)

"When I first started NaNoWriMo I did not think I could meet my goal of 5.555
but I now realise that I can and I will probably go over my goal. Each day as
I write, I feel like I know my characters even better. I am very excited and
happy with how my story is going. I can't say I am surprised that I think of
my story because it is so natural to me now I don't realize when I am
thinking about it." (AR Goal Reached)

"I have learned that if you want to do something, you can if you try. I like
NaNoWriMo more than I thought I would. I am always thinking about my story
and characters...Overall, I think this is a great way to get kids and adults
to read and write. I hope we do it again next year." (CK goal reached)

"Although my word count is low, I think NaNoWriMo is really fun to do. I
really like doing creative writing. In the beginning I thought it would be
boring, but I found out that it is really fun. My story sounds really cool,
and it just keeps you going." DS

"During the first 18 days of Nanowrimo I have realized I can write a lot more
than I first thought I could! My word count is already in the 5,000s and I am
amazed! My story is coming along very well and I feel like I know (my
characters) in person." (DK: goal reached)

"My experience with Nanowrimo is an interesting one. I leavned that writing
4,000 words is a lot harder than it seems. I feel like sometimes my character
says things I would have said. I feel like this character is becoming me! I
feel satisfied when I take a step back and look at my work." HK goal reached

"I have learned I can do well if I set my mind to it. I really believe that I
have discovered a new hobby in creative writing. I really have gotten
connected to my characters and have thought I was crazy because I have
started to dream about my story." JT goal reached

"During Nanowrimo I learned I can actually reach a goal thought to be
impossible. I feel connected to my characters as if they were real people. I
am surprised to be thinking about my characters and story even when I am not
writing. I feel great to see what I have accomplished." CL goal reached
