NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE GYMNASIUM

Congratulations to Mrs. Salem’s grade 4 and Mrs. Meyer’s grade 1 mileage club
participants. Since the Mileage Club began in the early fall, participants in
both classes have completed 100 MILES on the walking trail during recess.
That is a fantastic feat in physical education!!

Students in kindergarten through grade 2 are looking forward to participating
in my theme gymnastics courses in January and February. Movement course
themes include a Dr. Seuss gymnasium, a Toy Story gymnasium,
a Jurassic gymnasium, a space adventure theme and a circulatory system theme.

Students in grade 3 will begin a multicultural games unit in January. The
children and I will explore many countries and learn how to play games that
are popular in those nations. Students will also learn an interesting fact
about each country while they play.
Did you know that Canada has the longest total coastline in the world?
It is over 152,100 miles long!
Our unit will culminate with an around the world obstacle course filled with
several games that the students have previously learned.
Grades 4 and 5 will begin a volleyball unit in January. Rules have been
modified to maximize the competence and confidence of all of the
participants.
With the winter Olympics right around the corner, students in grade 4 and 5
will also get a chance to try out my Winter Olympics activity course in
February.
