Dear Families, We have been working hard on learning new reading strategies. We have been learning how to make text to self connections and visualize as we read. These strategies will improve comprehension as the children read. Please have them retell stories and involve children in discussions after they are finished reading their homework books. We have also learned several ways to figure out challenge words. Children should know how to look at the first letter of a word and "Get their mouth ready". We are also looking for smaller words or chunks within larger words. These are just a few of the strategies that we will learn this year! We are also learning addition strategies such as counting on from the higher number, making a group of ten and using our knoweledge of doubles (ie. 6+6, 7+7....) and doubles plus one. Please review these strategies at home as they are introduced.
