Hello Friends!
My name is Caryn Claar and I am excited to be teaching at Traver Primary
School. I live with my Husband Andrew, and my young kids Madison and Cooper.
I love to do arts and crafts, cook, play tennis, and go for hikes. My
favorite children's author is Eric Carle. Come on over if you like to hear a
good story, that is one of my favorite things to do at school!
A Senses Walk Through My Classroom: My Personal Philosophy To Teaching
Hear: In my child centered classroom you will hear the sounds of active
children. The observer will listen to children engaged in cooperative
learning. Youngsters’ will be discovering and constructing meaning from
their own experiences and through interactions with others. It will be
clear
to the listener that my students understand the way that they learn. This
centers approach will allow for children with different talents to learn
from
each other as well as permit for the teacher to go and help individual
students. One will hear a community of voices encouraged through positive
reinforcement.
See: The observer will notice a print rich environment at the children’s
level of sight. An individual will see the work of the children displayed
throughout the room. One will see the teacher bending down to the child’s
level to discuss examples. You will see the teacher acting as a guide or
coach and the students being the workers. The spectator will see carefully
laid out expectations and youngsters who are developing the habits of
thinkers.
Smell: If you came in the morning you would definitely smell snack. Snack
is
an essential part of the day because it is a time when the children can
converse with each other in a calm setting. School should be a place that
addresses social and emotional development, as well as academic. This is
the
ideal time to help children problem solve disagreements and find out more
about their lives out of school. Following schedules and routines, like
snack every morning, will help teachers and students to work in an
atmosphere
of mutual trust and high expectations.
Touch: Examining the children’s work one will see that it is completed
entirely by the student. Process instead of product is the name of the
game. The watcher will hopefully see work that the students are proud of
and
that if you showed it to them, they would be able to describe what they
completed. Much of the items are creative projects that reveal the
children’s interests as well as connections to the everyday world.
Taste: The onlooker will definitively taste a desire for learning in my
classroom. The curriculum is designed with a theme-based approach that
integrates the subjects and helps to develop connections to the outside
world
and motivate students. Youngsters will want to come to school because
learning is hands on and promotes deeper understandings rather than mere
coverage of materials. The diversity of students, materials, and ways of
learning will make for an exciting environment that the children will want
to
take ownership in.
Come explore your senses in my classroom!
