Is there a written exam?

NO.  For this course, you must submit a portfolio of 24 artworks.
These artworks are divided into two sections: Breadth and
Concentration.

What is the Breadth section of the portfolio?

The Breadth section consists of 12 artworks that show the 
diversity of what you can produce as an artist. You may include
works you've done in other classes or outside of school for this
section. All of your summer homework assignments should be used
for this sectiion as well. These artworks are submitted to be
scored by taking digital photos of your works and sending them in
through a website.

What is the Concentration section of the portfolio?

The Concentration section is another set of 12 artworks.  These 
12 artworks are all based on one central theme. You choose the
theme!!! These are usually produced in the span of your senior
year. These artworks are submitted to be scored by taking
digital photos of your works and sending them in through a
website.

What is the Quality Section of the portfolio?

From the above 24 artworks that you will be sending in digitally, 
you will choose your 5 BEST artworks that are 18" x 24" or
smaller. You will send these actual works in a portfolio case to
be scored. They are returned to you by mail after June.

How much homework is required?

There is approximately one project due each week, therefore this 
is a labor-intensive course. Students are expected to work both
in class and out of class to meet the rigorous requirements.

What supplies do I need for the course?

Pencil
Drawing Board with clips
Portfolio Case (any material--paper, plastic, leather)

Is it okay to submit 3-dimensional work?

NO.  We are not currently offering a 3-D portfolio.

What types of portfolios are available?

We offer both a Drawing Portfolio and a 2-D Design Portfolio.  
The Drawing Portfolio focuses on drawing issues and includes all
types of drawing and painting media. The 2-D Design Portfolio
focuses on Design issues and includes all drawing and painting
media, as well as photography and computer graphics.

Why do I have summer homework?

It is absolutely necessary that you come to class with the 5 
required summer homeworks to include in your portfolio. There is
so much work to do for this course, it is too difficult to
complete everything by the deadline. These summer homeworks must
be portfolio quality!
