About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
There are changes this year: new standards,a web-based online catalog, even some e-books! As always, though, I look forward to another year of working with our students and teachers. I find middle school to be both interesting and challenging. A day seldom goes by that I don't laugh; our students are bright and funny. I enjoy their visits to the library immensely! This summer I once again had the opportunity and privilege to work with other school librarians from around the state. We focused on The Common Core Standards and how to assist our students in learning how to think critically, ask questions and generate their own ideas about what they read, hear and see. We encourage our students to ask thoughtful questions and to seek out information that may answer their questions. We'll be looking at more complex text and lots of nonfiction. Because information is so abundant and comes in so many formats, our students must practice evaluating, analyzing, and synthesizing information. Additionally, they must learn how to share their ideas appropriately and ethically. This is the learning they will need to use into adulthood. The best part of my job is assisting them in learning how to do this through both through their classroom assignments and their personal pursuits. Please remember that you can easily contact me by clicking on the mailbox icon at the top of the library webpage. The schoolhouse icon will bring you to the LaGrange Middle School home page. Don’t forget to check out our District Webpage, too, as there is a great deal of information to be found there. Take some time to browse around. Among other items, you'll find news, reading lists and event calendars. I’m looking forward to another wonderful year – thinking, creating, sharing and growing together. Mission Label:
Mission
The mission of the Library Media Program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and to promote the enjoyment of reading, viewing, writing and listening. Using a variety of materials and formats connects learners to ideas and information that will help to prepare them for informed decision-making, especially as they use information technologies. My objective is to work and collaborate with teachers and administrators in order to assist our students in reaching their educational and personal goals using the skills and knowledge needed to be successful life-long learners.
