National Junior Honor Society

.

Arlington Middle School is proud to offer a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Our chapter of this prestigious national organization recognizes students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in all five areas of scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. The Arlington Middle School NJHS is open to all current eighth grade students who have achieved and who are maintaining quarterly averages (of all courses combined) of 90 or above (including sixth, seventh, and the first half of eight grades). This includes all core and non-core classes. Students must maintain this average until the end of 8th grade.

Students will be notified of the availability of applications in November. Applications will need to be completed along with teacher recommendation forms and a required essay to write before the published deadline in December. An NJHS advisory committee will review all applications for evidence of accomplishment in the five areas above. Students will then be notified in writing of their acceptance or denial. A formal induction ceremony will follow in January.

Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of performance in all five criteria that led to their selection. This obligation includes maintaining grades, good standing in character, leadership, service, and citizenship.

Students are required to attend monthly meetings held during the school year, participate in individual and chapter service projects, chapter fundraising, and fulfill ten hours of individual community service.
