I am thrilled to return to our wonderful AHS Admirals! This is my sixth year
teaching English in the Arlington District. Prior to joining the Arlington
family, I earned a M.A. in English and a B.A. in Secondary Education/English
from SUNY New Paltz, and taught English to university students for four
summers in northern China, Liaoning Province. When I'm not teaching
or globe-trotting, you might find me tending my ducks and chickens, kayaking
the Hudson, or muddying up some hiking boots on our tranquil Catskill Mtn.
trails.
Our class will function on my core belief that language is the key to
empowering young people, and that learning is best inspired, rather than
required. That means, students, you must be active and enthusiastic, take
part in your growth and the growth of your classmates, be open-minded and
unafraid of criticism, own every action and voice your ideas. If you do all
this, you will find inspiration, and inspire others.
This year we will build upon established writing, reading, speaking and
listening foundations by deepening our understanding of English language
arts in preparation for the 11th grade Regents Exam, and more importantly,
for our lifelong success. We will read and write every day in order to draw
connections between our present interests and the literature. I will
encourage you all to build a personal relationship with words so that
you can cultivate a unique, fluid, and interesting voice that is expressly
YOU!
