Can I send in treats for my child's birthday?

We love to celebrate birthdays in our class. We have 22 students. Please be 
sure to send in napkins. Cookies, cupcakes or ice cream
treats are best. NO cakes or drinks please.

Do the children have a daily snack time?

Every child may bring a snack to school, however we will not have a 
formal "snack" time. Children are allowed to eat quietly while they are
working in class. However, there will be no snacks when working at the
computers.

How much help should I give my child with homework?

Homework is intended to be a review of learned skills. You may need to help 
with directions and guidence in getting started. If your child is spending
more than 45 minutes "on-task", please let me know so we can work together to
help your child.

How long should my child read daily outside of school?

Third graders are increasing their fluency in reading. Daily practice is 
essential for growth. Each child should read for 15-20 minutes, daily. This
practice will give your child 2-3 hours of reading each week.

Should I still read to my child now that he/she can read?

Definitely! Reading a book that is more challenging to your child can improve 
their vocabulary. Discussing the book will enhance comprehension skills.

How can I help my child learn the required math facts?

Encourage your child to study facts by using flashcards daily, or go to the 
website A Plus Math Facts on the link page.

When is our recess period?

Third graders at Vail Farm Elementary have outside recess daily after lunch. 
There will be thirty minutes of play time. Please be sure that your child
dresses appropriately for weather conditions. Children can bring in Nerf
footballs or kickballs for recess.
