I received my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology at the
University of Vermont. After graduation, I decided to work with individuals
who were developmentally disabled for a number of years. This was
challenging, but rewarding work. I became aware of a volunteer program
called AmeriCorps and decided to place energies in this valuable work. It was
during this time that I began to see how I could couple my passion for
helping others with my desire to work with a younger population. I worked
with Special Education students in the Poughkeepsie School District. I
served two terms and moved on to working with the Autistic population at The
Anderson Center for Autism. I decided to go back to school and get my
Masters Degree in Education with a certifications in Special Education and
Elementary Education. I started working for the Arlington Central School
District as a teaching assistant in a self-contained K-2 classroom with
students on the Autism spectrum while going to school at Mount Saint Mary
College at night. I worked two school years with this program. The following
year I taught at Devereux Millwood, another school for Students with Autism
and completed my student teaching in the Arlington Central School District.
I was hired at Woodland Montessori School as the Middle School teacher and
taught there for 4 years. I served all types of students and taught all
academic subjects. This is my second year back at Arlington and I love
working with the IMPACT students. There is never a dull moment and they keep
me on my toes at all times!
IMPACT builds foundations that offer social/educational/emotional growth that
cultivates each student's talents and strengths. The IMPACT program seeks to
develop partnerships with existing community resources and fosters new
systems that support and guide student's with Aspergers Syndrome and their
families.
