My Background

I have lived in the Mid-Hudson Valley my entire life. I graduated from
Marlboro High School in 2000, from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Secondary English Education in 2005, and a Master of Arts in
English in 2009. Before I came to Arlington, I gained experience teaching in
New York City, Wallkill, Newburgh, and Poughkeepsie. I was also a dance
teacher for 6 years and have a love for the arts. I have worked with a wide
range of students of different ages, ability levels, and socio-economic
backgrounds.
I am the advisor for Everness, Arlington's creative writing club, and
help to oversee Everstock (a student-run rock concert) and the production of
Everness's literary magazine.
I am married and have 2 cats named Kahve and Dutchess who always keep
me laughing! My favorite color is red, and I love watching nature/animal
shows, home improvement/interior design shows, travel documentaries, movies
from the 1980's, food competition/reality shows, and science fiction/action
movies. I also love to travel to warm, beautiful places! For my own
enjoyment I like to write poetry and read.
2011-12 is my seventh year at Arlington and I am excited to be a part
of such a caring, supportive community. I really love working with high
schoolers, because they always keep me entertained and learning new things!

Mission For The Class

I have a sincere desire to help my students excel not only in English
class and on the required state exams, but also outside of class in their
everyday lives and their interactions with others. I have a strong sense of
purpose and a vision for developing the next generation of leaders in our
schools. It is my goal that all the students I have the opportunity to work
with will leave my classes with a solid knowledge of the English content as
well as the skills and convictions necessary to make them successful in all
areas of life beyond high school.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and to learn from
each other. Let's make it a fantastic year!
