I have always enjoyed the natural sciences and the outdoors. My favorite
sciences are: Astronomy, Earth Science, General Science and Physics.
When away from school I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as:
camping, hiking, gardening, shooting and other outdoor activities.
When I am unable to be outside, I enjoy working with my hands building table-
top science projects or improving my improvised outdoor equipment. Lately I
have been working on radio projects, bottle rockets and building archery
equipment with my children. I recently have had thoughts of building a solar
projection telescope and experimenting with solar cooking.
One of my favorite classroom demonstrations last year was the water drop
microscope(Magnifies about 100x).
I believe that this is an exciting time to be involved in science education.
The advent of the Internet has provided me with a wealth of readily available
information which has helped me to expand my teaching resource base and
provide fresh ideas for continued development.
I am able to guide and direct students interested in using internet resources
for developing their own science projects. I am also looking forward to one
day teaming up with the building Technology Teacher, to work on joint
student projects.
Outside my professional teaching responsibilities I think I would like to
work with youth interested in participating in a science club, outdoor
astronomy activities or in other outdoor activities. I have grand thoughts of
someday starting an outdoor institute.
