Avatar –Movie Review by David Strack

Now that the mother board of all movies, Tinnica is ship wrecked, Avatar has been dominating the ticket sales. The 3D adventure has sparked charm into all the worlds’ eyes capturing their minds into a fantasy- thrill ride that is all too realistic until you take the glasses off. Director James Cameron started writing Avatar back in 1995, he believed that the technology in the movie making business wasn’t suffice to start his own world of Pandora. It is estimated that Avatar was the most expensive movie to make. Yet ensured it got its funding back and some more. James Cameron wanted to capture the emotions and details in the actors not losing it in animation. The actors were first filmed in these big balls filled with lights and cameras to catch facial expressions and structures. The overall plot of this tale is phenomenal and the action is breathing. Louis “brirtany” Abreu remarks that the film was fabtaniclous two thumbs up. I actually had the pleasure to watch it with Louis Abreund it was exciting.

Soccer
is the most popular sport in the world. In Africa, Europe, Asia, and South
America, people live and die for their favorite teams. Futbol
is played with a ball and the object of the game is to place the ball into your
opponent’s goal. The reason why many people in the United States are not
appealed by soccer is that they say that the scoring is too low. To a certain extent, that is true. The scores
of professional matches often end in scoreless draws. If a game commences with
the result of 2-2, it is considered a high scoring match. The reason why soccer
is generally a much lower scoring game than baseball or basketball is that
while in these sports the ball handler controls the ball with his hand while in
soccer every player except a goalkeeper tames the ball with his feet, head,
knees, and chest. The only body part that field, soccer players, are not
allowed to use is their hands. That is why it is so hard to score a goal in
soccer, because ball placement is a lot more challenging without utilizing your
hands .The soccer competitions in Europe are also a lot more complex than those
of sports leagues in the United States. In lets say a US Major League Baseball
season- you go through a season and then you have the best teams of various
divisions face one another to ultimately determine a champion. In soccer there
are many different competitions. You have the regular seasons where teams from
the same league in a country face one another. Then you have the international
competitions such as the World Cup, Euro Cup, and Copa
America .Then you have international club competitions, such as the European
Champions League. The Champions League takes the best teams, such as Chelsea
and Barcelona, from every European Country, and pits them against one another.
Ultimately, there are many things that one can enjoy by participating in
soccer, despite the fact that the scoring may not always be high.

Middle
States Success !
By David Strack
Months and months of preparation, sweat and blood of the faculty and student body has all spilled out for this one week. It has been one of the most important weeks of this year. And off course I am mentioning the Middle States week. This week that either makes or breaks the most celebrated intuition of East Elmhurst, Cathedral Preparatory Seminary. Established 1962 this facility has held holders of the miter, Diocesan priests, deacons and successful Christian gentlemen. As we all were informed the next morning on the Friday that will go down in Cathedral history as Good Friday. Father Marano was joyful in the annunciation of the re-accreditation process. The evaluation team has revalued and there results were undeniable. Thankfully the school has passed. The goals submitted by the committee were golden and the protocol wasn’t called into question. The week started off with an encounter of daily life in the chapel, the heart of Cathedral Prep Seminary. Many meetings were held between the administration and teachers with the evaluation team. The students on the Middle States comitee were then held for interrogation. Kieran McGuire made the following statement on the response of the questing. “Ah the teachers on the committee prepared us well for the trails and
tribulations that were bound to oppose us upon their arrival. The odds were against us but we pulled through. Hard.” The next day the random passes were issued after mass. I was lucky enough to receive the slip. I am more of the yellow slip guy but any slip that will get me out of class is fine. I admit that my nerves were electrified upon entering the SLR that cold Thursday morning. The first question was asked and the entire room held their breath the questions came and came and I believe the students in attendance answered all well. I was surprise on how prepare we actually were. We have been hearing about this Middle States for months but we didn’t see how serious and important it was till that moment. Thankfully to God Cathedral was re-accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Special thanks to all the faculty and students and special thanks to Fr. Cush the internal coordinator of the entire process.
Smart Boards
The new Smart Boards have arrived! As
you may be able to see, there have been a few new additions to the teaching
equipment in the classrooms. The new Smart Boards are in portable and
stationary forms. The new and improved science lab has the stationary Smart
Boards which is permanent and can’t be moved. The other one in the computer lab
is portable and can be moved from classroom to classroom. These smart boards
may use up more electricity than usual but they help the aid in learning our
fine students. This makes it
easier for teachers to teach without the need for buying chalk every couple of
weeks.
