Rev. John P. Cush studied at Cathedral Prep Seminary, graduating in 1990. Fr.
Cush earned a BA (magna cum laude) in English and Philosophy, with minors in
Classical Studies and Theology in 1994 at Saint John's University, Jamaica,
while living at Cathedral Seminary Residence in Douglaston. After studies at
the Pontifical North American College, Vatican City State, he was ordained a
priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. He earned a STB (1997) and an STL (1999),
specializing in fundamental theology with an emphasis on biblical
Christology, both magna cum laude, from the Pontifical Gregorian University
in Rome,Italy. Fr. Cush served as a parochial vicar in Good Shepherd, Marine
Park (Summer 1998) and St. Helen, Howard Beach (1999-2004).
Fr. Cush is the Spiritual Director of Cathedral Preparatory Seminary, as well
as the director of development and alumni affairs.He teaches Senior English and Junior Moral
Theology, as well as a senior elective classes in Italian and Sequential art. Fr. Cush has taught
Freshmen English,Sophomore Scriptural Theology,Freshmen Theology, Junior Church History, and
Senior Humanities and Senior Philosophy and Psychology. He serves as director of the Fr. Troike
Leadership Program and has served as Director of Recruitment and as the internal facilitator for the
Middle States Reaccreditation Process.
Fr. Cush assists in parishes with Masses and Reconciliation in the Diocese of Brooklyn on the
weekend. He assists as a spiritual director and theology instructor in the Diocese of Brooklyn's
Permanent Diaconate Formation Program, as a theology (synoptic Gospels)instructor in Cathedral
Seminary Residence's Pre-Theology Program and as a theology instructor and pastoral supervisor in
the Diocese of Brooklyn Pastoral Institute Program for Lay Formation. Fr. Cush serves as a Censor
Librorum for the Diocese of Brooklyn, as well as the Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Dialogue's
Catholic-Episcopalian bilateral coordinator. He writes regularly the Sunday Scripture
article for THE TABLET and has been interviewed and acted as a consultant for
NET TV.
