Quarter 3

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

We are beyond the half way point of the year! Ms. Barefield has returned.
She will be teaching with me until March 9th as an apprentice teacher from
the Bard College Master of Arts in Teaching Program. Students are embracing
our poetry unit as we recognize the figurative language we use every day.
They are eager to write original poems and I'll post some excellent work onmy
Student Work page when they are completed.

Our historical fiction (Native Americans in literature) projects will be
presented in class on March 2nd. I am posting due dates for upcoming
assignments to help with parent communication. Students are working hard to
plan ahead using their planners. We've seen lots of improvement in that area.

A reminder that students should be reading on a regular basis. I am
expecting at least 20 minutes per night from a student selected independent
reading book. Please encourage your child to read.

Please remember I am available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for
extra help.

Regards,

Mrs. Debye-Saxinger
