What is the PTA

The PTA is the Parent Teacher Association. This is an 
organization joined by both parents and teachers in our school.
The PTA raises money to provide enriching cultural arts programs
for the students. The PTA also coordinates events like the Book
Fairs, Holiday Boutique and Mother's Day Sale.

How do I become a member of the PTA

PTA membership id open to all parents and teachers in the 
building. Dues are $7.00 per person; $12.00 per family (2 members); or $5.00 each additional member.

Can I join the PTA throughout the school year?

Yes. Membership in the PTA is open through the end of April in 
any school year. The membership runs from September 1 through
August 31 of the calendar year.

What does PARP stand for?

PARP stands for Parents as Reading Partners. It is an event which 
commences in early March of each school year. The parents and the
children are asked to sign a contract wherein the parents and
children agree to read for a certain amount of time every night
during the PARP period. This school year PARP will coincide with
the Spring Book Fair. There will be a PARP kickoff event on March
2, 2011. More information will be sent home. PARP is designed to
promote literacy.

What does SEPTA Stand for?

SEPTA stands for Special education Parent Teacher Association. 
There is a very active SEPTA in the East Islip School District that
tirelessly advocates for our children. For more information

What does FTK Stand for?

FTK stands for For the Kids. This organization was formed over ten 
years ago by East Islip parent volunteers. FTK raises money
throughout the year by running a carnival in the fall, the Black
Tie gala in the Spring and selling calendars. The money raised by
FTK goes right back to the students in our district through the
purchase of equipment, musical instruments, computers and a
multitude of other items.

How do I become a member of the Executive Board of the JFK PTA?

In the Spring, nominations open for all elected Board positions. 
Notice will be given out during the Spring. Each Board member
serves for a one year term running from July 1 through June 30 of
any calendar year. A Board member, if reelected, may serve up to
two consecutive terms in the same office.
