Weekly Happenings

Week of 5/14/2012
Reading/Writing:This week we will be reading and writing about our chicks. 
Grammar: We will continue to discuss nouns, verbs and adjectives.   We will use them in our poetry.

Math: We will continue with chapter 15 but we will also be working on math end of the year assesments.  Homework will focus on addition and subtraction review.  It is very important that you continue to practice addition and subtraction facts to 10 with your child daily.

Fundations: Today we began Unit 12, suffix es.  The children learned that if a word ends with ch, sh, x, z, and s the suffix es needs to be added to the word.   If you are doing the suggested homework today we completed week 2 day 1.   The trick words for this unit are:  see, work, between, both, being, under.  I suggest making index cards with these words.  You may wish to put them on a different color card since your child is responsible for both reading AND spelling these words.

Spelling:  spelling words for the week are: both, being, flashes, under, pinches, foxes, glasses, rushes, kisses, brushes.  5 sentences and 5 questions are due Wednesday.

Unit:  Chicks!  Today our eggs have been growing for 19 days. The chicks are getting ready to hatch.  Hopefully by Wednesday or Thursday we should have some exciting news to share.
