Your child will be bringing home a Planner every night which will tell you
what that day's homework is, provide a place for you to log in the number of
minutes he/she has read that day, and list the words of the week. The words
of the week will sometimes be vocabulary related to math, science, or social
studies. Students will sometimes be required to know the meanings of these
words and sometimes they will be required to spell them correctly. I will
let you know weekly of my expectations. There is also room for you to write
me a note about anything other than pick-up or absence notes. PLEASE KEET
THE PLANNER IN YOUR CHILD'S TAKE HOME FOLDER AND REMIND HIM/HER TO BRING IT
TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY.
Basically, I do not believe in assigning a great deal of homework.
Generally, there will be a Math worksheet which will review what was covered
in today's Math lesson and there is a daily requirement of reading. On some
nights there will be dictation homework which will reinforce our Fundations
lesson from that day. Please do not send in Fundations homework until it is
written on the planner. All together, the homework should not take more than
20 minutes (not including the reading). I recommend that children do their
reading just before going to bed. This is a great way to help them calm
down. A good book choice might even set them up for some great dreams!
If your child seems to be spending more than this amount of time on
homework, please let me know and we will figure out what might be causing
this.
