Hello! We had a great magic show in the morning on Friday. The PTA sponsored it to say thank you for selling at the fund raiser. The man that presented the show was Rick Smith. I looked him up on you tube and he had some of the shows that he has been on (Ellen, America's Got Talent). He told the kids he would be on Shark Tank this coming Friday. You may want to check him out. He had a juggler with him as well who has been on national tv. He has a web page that he told the kids to look up but I am not sure of it wwwricksmithjr.com. He is supposed to post photos of his Fredonia show on his facebool page?We are in need of tissue boxes here at school. WE have gone though our entire supply and the cold season has just begun. Please donate a box of tissues if you can. Thanks. Please be careful at drop off and pick up. Please do not park in or around the handicapped reserved spot unless your car is marked handicapped. We know parking is difficult, do the best you can.The Audubon society will visit both morning and afternoon classes to teach a presentation on mammals. They always do an amazing job. We look forward to their visit. We will be going to their center in May. I will get the dates you can mark your calendar. We will need many volunteers. No school Monday January 30th. Teachers will be at school working on the new state regulations and common core.Miss Cilip returns this week to student teach with us full time. Please welcome her back. We look forward to her fresh ideas.Happy Martin Luther King Jr Day. I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. It was nice to finally have some winter weather. On Saturday I helped out with the high school musical, Fiddler on the Roof and I chaperoned the Winter Ball. I enjoyed seeing many students that I taught when they were in kindergarten. It was a lot of fun. Enjoy every second with your young child, they grow up SO FAST!!!!We continue our Opossum GEMS kit. I hope you are asking questions about the work that is coming home. I hope your child is able to teach you some cool facts about our very own nocturnal, omnivorous marsupial. We will be developing a list of facts that we have learned to send home to you. We have been doing a great deal of measuring, counting and comparing as well.On Thursday we were able to visit the auditorium for a show designed specifically for pre-k and kindergarten about anti-bullying. The important part that the children should have taken away from the show is this: If you are being bullied...walk away and tell an adult. If you see a friend being bullied...walk away and tell an adult. Young children are still learning proper school, play space, bus behavior. Encourage your child to always be on his/her best behavior and praise it so they know what proper behavior is.Valentine's Day is coming soon( February 14). I encourage you to make homemade Valentine's rather than store bought ones. It will take more time for you and your child to do but the benefits of homemade cards are incredible. Start early! Making 2 a day for your child is perfect. Watch for the Valentine note and list of children to come home this week.Happy New Year!Winter WeatherI hope you all had a wonderful week off. Your children came back eager to begin a new school year. We had a beautiful day for going out this past Friday. Thank you for sending in snow gear! Please send it in on those days when it looks as though the weather is going to cooperate. We may not get out often. We can only go out when the weather is above 20 degrees. With the wind here at the big school we do not often get days that are good for going out. Please be sure to bundle your child up to get them out at home! Fresh air and is SO important for health and well being. We now have snow gear bags here at school. We are learning a new routine for getting dressed and undressed to face the elements. PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD'S NAME ON EVERYTHING!!!! Our room's temperature is not consistent. Dress your child in labeled layers in order to accommodate the temperature changes.Wrap Around Kids are welcome to bring snow gear down after school or keep it at wrap around rather than take it back and forth each day. We say good - bye to a few new friends. We say good-bye to Thomas from our morning class and good-bye to Madeline and Tagg in our afternoon. We welcome Isabelle Hart to our afternoon class.PhysicsOur show case in the hallway documents the morning classes visit to our high school physics lab. Abby Lauer turned 5 in December. She and her classmates celebrated her day by spending part of it learning physics with her dad's high school physics class. Each child was partnered up with a high schooler or two. Each child put together a bottle rocket which he/she was able to take home. We had fun testing them out with our new physics buddies. Sir Isaac Newton recently celebrated his birthday as well. Wouldn't he be proud to have his laws being discussed at such a young age? Come by our classroom to see our project.SnakeThe afternoon class got a science lesson as well. We were invited down to Mrs. Tomaszewski's room to meet her husband who is a science teacher in Silver Creek. My Tomaszewski brought along a special friend of his that was a gift from his students. He brought in Monty who was a 4 foot Ball Python. We learned all about pythons and were even aloud to touch Monty. We will be getting photos from Mrs. Tomaszewski shortly that we will also display in the showcase. We hope to be creating some future scientists in our classes.Opossum GEMS KitThe next few weeks we will be learning about another local animal, the opossum. We discussed it last week and learned a few fun facts. This week we will be doing some measuring, sorting and counting activities surrounding the opossum theme. Look for a small opossum coming home to you soon. Along with measuring at school, you will have some measuring to do at home as well. Please return book orders by January 17th> Thanks! No school on January 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. DayNo school on January 30th for inservice dayI will try to keep our updated.
