April May June

Many children have been asking to bring home small readers.  They want to share them at home and then come back and "Read" it to the class.  Some children are truly ready to read these books while others memorize and recite it back to us.  Some look at the pictures and make up a story to go with them.  All of these methods of reading are fine.  We are encouraging the process of reading no matter what stage the child is in.  Taking books home and reading is not mandatory this year.  If a child returns a book they may choose a new one to take home.

Audubon is this Wednesday.  Chaperons, please return your transportation plans so we can be prepared with numbers for the bus company.  Chaperons please remember to pack a lunch for yourself and be well rested for our adventure.  Thank you ahead of time for your help.

Gardens
We are having a ball with our garden beds.  I hate to plant anything in them because the children are having so much fun turning the soil, collecting rocks, breaking soil clumps and searching for worms.

Conferences
I am slowly trying to complete my kindergarten screen on all the kids.  Miss Oppee and Mrs. Brandhorst are working to completing the Get it, Got it, Go assessment with all the children.  I would like to meet with all the families before school gets out for the summer.  I will have a sign up soon.  Kindergarten packets should be ready for you shortly.

Please mark your calendar for May 15 to VOTE.  This is a VERY important vote for the future of our school.

Pete The Cat
Pete has a great new book which introduces kids to subtraction in a groovy way.  I have started a Pete travel bag.  Your child will bring it home with a stuffed Pete.  Please help your child write about their adventure with Pete and bring it back to school the following day for the next child to take home. The child that brings Pete home may bring a show and Tell item in for the day.  the child will be the leader and special helper for the day.We have a leader wheel in the class that shows the children when their special day will be, it is in alphabetical order.  I just found some dust bunnys at the store, I may start a dust bunny bag as well.

Audubon
Looks like rain.  PLEASE dress for the weather.  No umbrellas please.  Please put names on EVERYTHING and bring a change of clothes.  We will take our backpacks with us.  Name on EVERYTHING.  We will have over 65 kids and many adults.  Keeping track of kids belongings will not be easy.  Thanks.

Thanks to Jillian's aunt for coming in and teaching the afternoon class about good dental health.  She was wonderful!

Hello!  HAPPY EARTH DAY!

We are working on worms, have you heard?
Last week we started learning about nd started our own worm.  We will be making organic matter to put in our pre-k gardens.  All the children have touched, picked up and played with real earthworms.  Some ,liked this better than others.  We continue this week by making books, reading books and measuring with rulers with our worms.

Friday I was on  a school trip with Margaret and the high school chorus to Boston.  A wonderful time was had by all.  Everywhere we went the people told us how impressed they were with how well behaved and polite our students were.  Fredonia should be very proud. At school on Friday the soil was dumped into our garden boxes.  When the snow disappears we will start raking and planting.

Your child is planting a squash seed today.  The seed was saved from last year's garden project.  We will get them started at school and you may continue to care for the squash at home.  Hopefully you will be able to enjoy wonderful butternut squash in the fall.

The science fair has been canceled for this week.  There is still a PTA meeting that night but the science portion has been canceled.

Thursday is National Puddle day.  Please have your child dress in rain gear for Friday, boots, umbrella, rain coat, rain hat.  Thanks.

Thank you for being patient with our new sign in/sign out procedure.  Change is not easy for any of us.
