Students have many opportunities to earn a maximum of 20 extra credit points throughout the quarter. Extra credit opportunities are available to students who have all current assignments turned in. Listed below are several suggestions for extra credit projects:
***4th quarter, Human Body Extra Credit***
Choose a body system that we have studied and complete one of the following:
- Identify a disease that affects the system. What organs are involved, what happens over time and how is the disease treated.
- Create a brochure to describe the organ system purpose, the organs in the system and include some interesting facts and illustrations.
- Research an anomaly of the human body (examples: gigantism, conjoined twins, oversized tumors, etc.). Write about or use another format to share the information.
- Create a "Get Healthy" brochure, movie, powerpoint, calendar plan, meal suggestions...
- Develop your own project for the human body.
With this project there is the potential to earn 20 extra credit points. Points will be awarded with respect to accuracy of information and overall effort.

1. Bring in a box of tissues (2 points)
2. Teach your parents something we learned in class this year.
**Parents must write a note explaining what they learned and sign it.
3. Research a career in science.
**What kind of schooling would someone need to pursue that career?
**What responsibilities come with that career?
4. Research an endangered species.
5. Visit the bulletin board in class and determine your global impact.
6. Visit www.sciencenewsforkids.org (click title) or
National Geographic for Kids http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/stories/ (click title)
**Choose an article to read, write a summary and hand it in.
7. Research a scientist.
**Provide some biographical information about the scientists
**Describe the significant impact that scientist had in his or her field of science.
8. Research the role that science has in the fields of cosmetology and fashion. (ie. make-up, perfumes, hair dyes, clothing materials, etc...)
9. Complete a current science event from the newspaper.
**Answer the 5 W's and 1 H.10. Present an idea to Mrs. Lauer!
