ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
All children residing within Gayhead Elementary School boundaries are
assigned to and are expected to ride the bus to and from school each day.
There are times it may be necessary for you to transport your child. At
those times, please follow the procedures outlined below. The procedures
will provide a smooth and orderly arrival and dismissal. More importantly,
they will help us provide a safer and more secure environment for your child.
ARRIVAL
Children may not be dropped off in the building prior to 8:50 a.m. as there
is no supervision. The buses arrive at 8:50 a.m. and unload at that time.
Announcements begin at 9:00 a.m. which officially begins the day.
Children arriving after 9:00 a.m. are considered tardy and must report to the
office to sign in and obtain a tardy pass. If the student does not sign in,
the attendance cannot be changed from truant to tardy.
It is very important that children arrive on time as very important
information is presented at the onset of the school day and a tone is
established for the day as well. When children miss that routinely, they are
beginning their day at a disadvantage.
DISMISSAL
Children must be sent to school with a note each day they will not be taking
their usual bus home. We will not have a call-in pick-up list. If a child
does not have a note, he/she will be sent home on the bus.
AM kindergarten children who have brought in a note for pick-up will be
signed out and picked up in the main office.
DISMISSAL – PARENT PICK-UP
1. Upon student arrival, notes are to be given to the classroom teacher
who will then send them to the office in a special envelope.
2. The office will record the name of the child being picked up as well
as the person who will be signing out the child on our pick up list
3. Teachers will also record the information on their “dismissal sheet”
and use that information to dismiss their students.
4. The primary wing entrance on our lower level is the entrance for
parent pick-ups at dismissal.
5. Children will be dismissed from their classrooms at 3:20 p.m. to
report to the lower level.
6. Children will report to the three rooms as follows according to their
last names:
A through F Blue Room (next to the stairs)
G through P Yellow Room (across from stairs)
Q through Z Hallway near room 3
7. No children will be picked up until 3:25 p.m.
8. Children who need to be picked up before dismissal should be picked
up prior to 2:50 p.m. We do not want to interrupt classes between 2:50 and
3:20 p.m. This is valuable instructional time.
9. Doors to the pick up area will open for adults at 3:25. Parents will
proceed to one or more of the dismissal rooms.
10. Parents sign the child out.
11. A staff member is assigned in each dismissal room to keep order among
the children, to bring the student to the doorway of the room and turn the
child over to the adult signing the child out.
12. The exchange of the child will be made after the adult signs. A
legible sign-out is required.
13. At 3:35 remaining children will be brought upstairs.
14. We do appreciate that emergencies happen and will always do our very
best to accommodate such unusual circumstances.
