I am pleased to be a part of Kent Primary's staff. I am blessed to be able to
share in the lives of our young students. It is a pleasure to work with your
wonderful children in the Media Center as a Teaching Assistant. I have been
employed with the Carmel School District since 1982. My husband of 39 years
and I are parents of two adult children, Bridget & Bill and proud grandparents
of Molly, Brendan, Gabriel, Erik, and our 5th Grandchild, Emily
born on December 13th. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Empire State
College.
I believe the 2011-2012 school year will bring much success, knowledge and
pride to each and every student while raising their competence level with
technology. It will be a grand adventure for both myself and every child while
we create PowerPoint Presentations, work in Publisher, Word, Wiggle Works,
Mighty Math, Math Essentials, Sim Park, Kids Pix and explore many websites.
When walking into any present-day classroom at Kent Primary, the most obvious
change from even five years ago is technology. SMART Boards are used every day
in the classroom. Ask your child about it today! They really engage the
students and make the learning process more exciting. Teachers create files
that they share with other teachers. So much of it is hands-on learning. Every
classroom from Kindergarten thru Fourth Grade including the Art & Music Rooms
have a "Smart Board"! A SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard that uses
touch detection for user input -- e.g., scrolling, right mouse-click -- in the
same manner as a normal PC (personal computer). A projector is used to display
a computer's video output on the whiteboard for the entire class to see. Using
notebook software, teachers can record each step of a lesson activity for
students to review at a later time. The flexibility of such use in the
classroom, including multiple ways in which teachers can display information
(interactive text, images, sound and video files), has been shown to
facilitate instruction and support different learning styles among students.
Each new day has given us a new discovery. Learning is forever! I learn
something new every day. I look forward to working with Kent Primary's "tech
wizards". I hope you and your family will love coming to school everyday as
much as I do. I'll see you all real soon in the Media Center!
