Dear Families,
We hope you are enjoying the summer vacation! Although the summer is rainy,
time is still going very fast. I’m sure you have so many stories to share
about what you did this summer and about Kindergarten. We want to welcome
you to First Grade. First grade is a wonderful year full of so many
adventures. We learn to read, write, and learn many math games
using “manipulatives”. We get to be scientists, detectives, and solve lots
of problems in science class. Mrs. Peck’s class and Mrs. Mercado’s class
participate in science together as well as other activities. Each of us
will meet many new friends. We can’t wait for all of us to get to know each
other and start our journey into first grade.
Our classrooms are getting facelifts. Everything was taken out of the
classroom and the tile floor, the tile ceiling, the light fixtures, heater
and some of the cabinets were removed. Then new flooring, ceiling, fixtures
and cabinets were put in. All the furniture, books, boxes, that we packed,
will be brought back into the room by the custodians. Hopefully all will be
done so we can get the classroom ready for your arrival.
Something we don’t like to hear in the classroom are the words “I can’t”.
Everyone can try and everyone learns differently, so in our classes we do
the best we can. We all make mistakes and guess what, that is the way we
learn. Our classrooms have many tools that can help us if we get stuck and
there are many people in the Kent Primary School building that can help us
too. Remember we are a TEAM!

Since we are a TEAM, I expect that we all RESPECT each other and our
differences.
Enclosed is a cutout of a child. Please create a picture of yourself using
anything you want. Try to use your imagination and use things like markers,
crayons, scraps of construction paper, yarn and/or felt. Dress the cutout
to look like you! Put your name on one of the feet of the cutout.
Don’t forget to bring your summer homework into school.
Looking forward to seeing you and spending a fun filled first day with you.
We will wait outside the classroom for you. Don’t forget to bring a smile.
Sincerely,
S. Mercado and L. Peck
