Science - In science we have been working on properties, like the
similarities and differences of objects, classifying them into groups. They
realized something can be in the same group but have more than one
property. Some concept words are color, group, property, shape, size, sort,
texture, and weight. They also looked at some shells and grouped them by
their properties. They liked using texture words to describe them like:
hard, rough, smooth, and soft. They really liked using different objects to
see if they would sink or float! They had to predict first then test it to
see if their prediction was right. Comparing the weights of objects to see
which object was lighter or heavier, and seeing what those objects are made
of.Finally comparing and contrasting the properties of 4 liquids starch,
oil, water, and vinegar.
Social Studies- In Social Studies we have been working on our communities,
and people that live in them. That different people in our community has to
work and they have jobs to earn money such as: a policeman, firefighter,
teacher, and mail carrier. For instance we had a "store" in the classroom.
Mrs. Strong was the cashier and they had to buy school supplies with the
money they had and get some change back. They really enjoyed that alot! But
they also realized that they might not of had enough money to buy what they
wanted and they had to figure out the solution to the problem.
Math - In math we have been working on using counters to find the sum.
Like they would need to have 10 circles in all. They would have 3 how many
more would they need to get 10, what and what equals 10(3 and 7). Also
could you divide 9 evenly 3 ways etc. They even had to figure out the
missing numbers like blank and 2 more is 10 , and 1 fewer than the number
is what.
