Math NewsFlash

2/8 I am having technical problems updating my Teacherweb homework assignments this week.  The IT department is aware of it and is working on it.  I apologize if the homework page is not updated daily as usual.  Feel free to email me if you see it has not been updated.

2/6  Study for the quiz on Lessons 8-1 to 8-5 on Tuesday February 7.

1/31 Just a friendly reminder...you have to solve 8 equations on tonight's homework...2 each for problems 1,4,7,11.  Students need to let x = 0 in the equation to find the y-intercept, and let y = 0 in another equation to find the x-intercept.  Even though it seemed as though everyone understood the lesson on Monday, many students came to class to day without solving any equations

1/30/12  WELCOME TO THE 3RD QUARTER!  Everyone is starting off with a clean slate, so make sure you take advantage by getting your homework done, paying attention in class, and asking for help if you need it.

1/23  PARENTS: PLEASE encourage your child to do the extra credit bonus questions given on tests!  Hardly any students bothered to do it today.  Also, all students need to bring a calculator and pencil to class every day.  Students frequently come to class without any materials to work with.

1/20  Students were not quite ready for a test, so we reviewed the material today and the chapter 7 test will be Monday.  STUDY!

1/18/12  Students took a quiz on Lessons 7-4 to 7-6 today.  They need to bring a calulator to class every day.  The chapter 7 test is Friday 1/20/12.

12/21 Students will get 10 bonus points on their test by bringing a calculator to class. Parents: please make sure your child has a calculator and a supply of pencils. Many students come to class day after day with no paper, pencils, or calculator. They need these materials every day in math class.

12/15 Students need to bring a calculator to class every day. Many students do not know their multiplication and division facts. Parents: please have your child practice the basic facts every night for 5 minutes (problems like: 5 x 3, 24 / 6, etc. Also, please ask if they have done their homework. Students have about 5-10 minutes of homework every night in math. Many are not doing their homework.

12/5 NONE of my students did the bonus for the quiz. Therefore, I will not have any more bonus on quizzes or tests until students give me an indication they are going to do it.

11/28 Print out ONE of the pages from the Chapter 5 Parent and Student Study Guide sheets and complete with your parent/guardian. Show all work on a separate sheet of paper and have your parent/guardian sign it to show they helped you with it. Turn in by Friday to count as bonus for your quiz next Monday. To find the pages, click on the Math Links page, then click on the first link (the Glencoe site). Copy and paste the following link in the address bar to go to the page: http://www.glencoe.com/sec/math/prealg/prealg05/study_guide/index.php4/ny

11/22 Student took a makeup of the quiz on 5-1 to 5-5. Most students got a higher grade the second time around, but some still did not pass. Students need to review basic fraction skills (changing fractions to decimals, reducing fractions, and adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers) over vacation. We will continue with chapter 5 after the break. Happy Thanksgiving!

11/7 Students will take the chapter 4 test Tuesday. For 10 bonus points, bring in a note signed by a parent saying they observed you studying at least 10 minutes. "Studying" means doing some problems, not just thumbing through the book!

11/4 Students took a quiz on 4-4 to 4-8 today. Study for the chapter 4 test, which will be Tuesday November 8. Check back this weekend for bonus opportunities!

10/31 Happy Halloween! I have started sending notes home with students if they do not come to class 2 days in a week with their homework. Parents: please sign the note and have your child return it the next day. Students who get behind in homework generally see their grades fall as well. There will be a quiz Friday on Lessons 4-3 to 4-8. The chapter 4 test will be next week. Friday November 4 is the last day of the 1st quarter.

10/27 study for the quiz on 4-1 to 4-4 tomorrow. For 10 points bonus, have your parents print out this page and sign it, or write a note saying that they observed you study for at least 10 minutes.

10/24 Very few students did the bonus for the chapter 3 test...I would highly suggest you take advantage of it to help improve your grades the next time I give some!

10/17 Study for the quiz tomorrow on Lessons 3-5 to 3-7 and the chapter 3 test on Thursday. To get 5 points bonus for the quiz tomorrow, print out this page with a note from a parent saying they observed your studying for at least 15 minutes. (If the quiz has to be postponed for the Human Chair dedicated to Karen's Hope, students will get their bonus when they take the quiz on Wednesday). Complete the chapter 3 online exam on the Glencoe website and submit the results online for 10 bonus points on the chapter 3 test.

10/1 Students and Parents: check the webpage to avoid missing out on bonus points like those given before the chapter 2 test!

9/26 The chapter 2 test will be Thursday 9/29. Either print out a copy of this webpage and have a parent sign it showing you have studied at least 15 minutes for the test, or have a parent send me an email saying they observed you studying for at least 15 minutes, and get 10 points bonus on the test!

9/21 Study for the quiz on Lessons 1-4 to 1-7 (Wednesday) and the chapter 1 test (Thursday).

9/14 Several students have already come to class without their homework completed...please check your agenda and make sure you have done your homework before coming to class.

9/12 Students may leave their textbooks in their lockers or at home as I have enough for a student set to leave in the classroom.

9/8 All students need the following supplies for math class: math notebook, yellow chapter 1 workbook, pencils, covered textbook, agenda, scientific calculator. Please bring these to class every day!9/6 Welcome to Team 8-1 Math!
