Welcome To Kindergarten
Kindergarten is a very exciting year! It is a time for exploration and discovery. Some of our topics of study are: Animal & Woodland Habitats, Families, Needs & Wants, School Community, National Symbols and Simple Machines. We have a balanced literacy program. We use Fontas and Pinnell's Guided Reading as well as Wilson Fundations. Children begin the year learning letter identifications, sound associations and concepts of print. We eventually move on to reading simple sight words and emergent reader stories. Students will begin to record their thoughts in their writing. Students will learn number identification and number writing. They will study a variety of mathmatical concepts such as greater than, less than, measurement, addition and subtraction. Kindergarten is a very special year. It is wonderful to watch students grow academically and socially.
