How do I send in lunch or snack money with my child?

Please send in lunch money and/or snack money in an envelope or baggie in your child's folder.
Please write your child's name on the envelope or baggie.
When your child comes into the classroom in the morning he
or she will put the envelope or baggie in a basket on my desk.
Before we go to lunch your child will take his or her lunch money
from the basket and bring it to the cafeteria.

Please always feel free to contact me. You can send in a note in your
child's folder. You can email me at ranital@chatham.k12.ny.us.
You can call and leave me a message on my voicemail. I check my
voicemail and email before I leave each day. I will get back to

What should my child bring in for show and tell?

Your child may bring in anything he or she would like. Please do not
send in guns/swords, breakable or extremely sentimental items. The
item must be able to fit in your child's bookbag. Each month I will
send home the show and tell schedule. I also post the schedule on
our website. Please make sure your child brings in his or her item on
their assigned day. Show and tell is an important way to help your child
with the N.Y. State Standard for Speaking and Listening in Kindergarten.

Will my child have homework?

I do not send home specific homework. From time to time the kindergarten
team will send home a special project for your child to complete at
home and return to school. If I feel your child is having difficulty
with a specific skill, I will contact you to send home some extra items
for you to help reinforce the skill. Reading to your child
is one of the best ways to help your child at home. As your child
learns beginning reading skills he or she can read the words they
know to you allowing reading to become more interactive.

What do I do if I am picking up my child at dismissal?

If you know you will be picking up your child at dismissal ahead of
time, please send in a note with your child in the morning. In kindergarten
it is very helpful for me to know ahead of time.

How can I know what skills my child is learning each week and be informed about upcoming important dates?

Each Friday I will post a weekly newsletter informing you of the skills
your child is learning. The letter will tell you what your child did
at literacy stations for the week as well as the math, social studies
and science concepts we are learning. I will also inform you of
important dates of upcoming events. Once school starts you can sign up
for NewsFlash if you choose to. This is an email that will automatically be sent to
you when I update my webpage.

Are birthday invitations allowed to be handed out at school?

We are only allowed to hand out birthday invitations if the entire
class is invited to the party. In September the PTA sends home
information so they can compile class phone numbers. This is how many
parents communicate to each other for parties. If you want to be on
this class information list you must return the PTA slip by their deadline.
We are not allowed to give out personal telephone numbers so please take
part in the PTA directory.
