About Ms. Robbins

I am a former graduate of Massapequa High School. I graduated with a BA in
philosophy, politics, and law from SUNY Binghamton. I also attended Hofstra
Law school. Though I enjoyed learning about the law and how our judicial
system works, I soon realized that I wanted to become a teacher rather than
a lawyer. I spent a few years working in a Wall Street firm in New York
City until I finally decided to go back to school to become a teacher.

After receiving my masters degree from SUNY Stony Brook, I began teaching
American History at Berner Middle School, which I loved. I am excited to be
back at Massapequa High School as a teacher.

I co-advise the National History Day program with Mrs. Siegel at Berner Middle
School. I am happy to help any high school student who is interested in
creating a project and competing. It is a great opportunity!

Each year I help organize MHS students to get involved with the Budget Vote.
They get to introduce elementary students to the voting process while their
parents vote. Elementary students get a taste of democracy while voting for
their choice of MHS student artwork to adorn the cover of the district calendar.

In 2010, Long Island Council for the Social Studies awarded me with the
Outstanding High School Social Studies Teacher Award.

I look forward to an interesting and fun year with all of my classes!

Mission For The Class

I hope to instill a love and respect for American History as well as the
American Judicial System in all my students. Students often ask, "why study
social studies?" My reply is that social studies not only teaches us about
the past, but it also tells us how to make the most out of our future! By
studying our history, we can all make a difference for our future. Our
history and the body of law that our government has created affects our
everyday lives by protecting us and those around us.

The mission for the class is to have my students actively and
enthusiastically learn about American history, government, and the law.
My goal is for my students to not only learn but to enjoy doing so!!!
