Ms. MacCarthy has been a School Social Worker in the Carmel Central School 
District since 1987.  She has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Salem 
College and a Masters degree in Social Work from Fordham University. 
She is Certified and Licensed by the State of New York and a member of 
several professional organizations.

Ms. MacCarthy is married and has two children.  She enjoys reading, 
gardening, and traveling.  Ms. MacCarthy works full time at Matthew Paterson 
Elementary School.


WHAT SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKERS DO

School Social Workers offer a wide variety of services depending on the 
needs of students and families.  These include:

 - Provide individual and group counseling to students.
 - Offer academic, social and emotional support to children and their 
     families.
 - Provide behavior management and social skills training.
 - Collaborate with professional staff regarding student needs.
 - Provide crisis intervention, referral and ancillary services to students
     and families as needed.
 - Conduct training and educational workshops for teachers and parents.
 - Fulfill responsibilities to the Committee on Special Education.
 - Serve as liaison to public agencies, private therapists and community
     resources.
