Grade 6- Independent Reading Requirements
• You will be required to read 11 books independently over the course of
the school year:
2 the 1st quarter
3 the 2nd quarter
3 the 3rd quarter
3 the 4th quarter
• You will need to read at least one book in each of the following literary
genres:
Realistic fiction
Science fiction
Biography/ Autobiography
Fantasy
Historical fiction
Nonfiction
Poetry
Mystery
The remaining 3 books may be duplicates of any genre.
• You will need to take an Accelerated Reader quiz on the books you choose.
Please look the books up in the computer before you begin to read to make
sure there is a quiz available. Also, the book must be +/- one reading level
for you. Please see me if you have any questions about whether or not the
book is appropriate for you.
• You will be required to fill out a genre packet on each of the 11 books
you read. These can be found in the classroom. The packets will be graded
and included in your quarter averages.
• An independent reading response will also need to be completed and turned
in every two weeks. Please use the reading response prompt list for ideas.
