Fun Science Fact of the Week

September 26, 2011

The daddy longlegs, more commonly known as a harvestman, is not a spider at all! Rather, it is more closely related to mites, scorpions, and pseudoscorpions. The name daddy long legs is commonly confused with the cellar spider (a true spider) and the crane fly (which people sometimes think are giant male mosquitoes...they aren't. Crane flies aren't parasites, like mosquitoes.
