What is the NYSESLAT and how often is it administered?
The NYSESLAT is the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test. It is administered every Spring [April/May] to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade to measure their progress in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English.Testing this year will begin with the Speaking section [administeredindividually to students] April 13, 2011 and conclude May 27, 2011. When will results of the NYSESLAT become available?
Results of the NYSESLAT are available to school districts during the summer. For example, scores for NYSESLAT assessments completed in May are made available to the school by August. Students' assessment results determine their placement in the English as a Second Language [ESL] program for English Language Learners at three levels: Beginning [360 minutes per week],Intermediate [360 minutes per week] or Advanced [180 minutes per week] for the following school year. Beginning and Intermediate students receive 180 minutes in ESL, as well as 180 minutes in English Language Arts [ELA] instruction.Back to Top
