An informative website which provides an introduction to the
United States government in Washington, D.C.
The White House for Kids
The site promotes learning about our physical world: animal and
plant life, as well as people and places around the world.
National Geographic for Kids
The International Children's Digital Library site is one of my
personal favorites. Besides English, visitors to the site can
access books in Arabic, Farsi, French, Hebrew, Japanese, Pashto
[Pashtu], Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Yiddish as well as many
other languages. Books are made available by permission of the
copyright owner or are in the public domain. Many books are
published in multiple languages. The ICDL "promotes tolerance and
respect for diverse cultures by providing access to the best of
children's literature from around the world".
International Children's Digital Library
A helpful website for reference, including help with grammar.
Using English
This BrainPop website provides interactive [and free] games for
English language learners, such as Fill-In-The-Blank.
BrainPop: ESL
This Public Broadcasting Service website provides interactive
games for children such as Wonder Words: match up, Cliffords'
Scavenger hunt and Doggy Detective stories.
PBS for Kids
This website is becoming one of my favorites. Students at Menands
School can access this website by password which any teacher can
provide to parents or students. Besides English, you can also
access audiobooks and "follow along" books in French, Spanish,
Chinese, Italian and Russian. Some books have language options.
Whether you are looking for story books, chapter books,
(including the classics) or non-fiction, visitors to the site
will find something interesting to read in Kindergarten through
sixth grade level. Take five minutes ...or take your time!
