	Gail Wehmann opened the meeting to discuss the current SLT
project “Making the United States Come Alive”. It was suggested to purchase
a 35inX35in stencil of the United States map to accurately paint the map on
the blacktop.
	Another idea to use the map interactively would be a Geography Bee.
Older students can develop questions based on the states. Students will also
be able to utilize this map during social studies class.
	A United States of America state by state guide with songs and facts
about each state has been ordered. This was ordered with money from Joe
DiDonato.
	The 6th grade green team has adopted a state. Each student has an
individual state that they became pen pals with. This will give them the
opportunity to interact with students from that state and communicate with
them. The map can also be utilized for this activity.
	SLT may have money left over to buy skill building activities and
games.
	At the October faculty meeting, teachers signed up to obtain
postcards from different states. We have received some postcards (Maine,
Oregon). The postcards list facts about each state.
	At the November faculty meeting, it is planned to have each classroom
adopt a state. It is also planned to have the entire school community
participate in this project (Nurse, Special Area, Related Services, Main
Office, etc). States will be “adopted” and facts will be gathered. Classes
will make postcards about each state and a scrapbook will be made, which will
be kept in the school library. We can also utilize the post office with the
project by mailing the postcards to different classes. A different state
will be featured weekly and facts will be mentioned about the state during
the morning announcements.
	Mrs. Deising opened the discussion about the post office. She
suggested having monthly topics that the students can write about. It was
also suggested to have the students write letters to Mr. Parla, the
Superintendent. This is planned to be done during the month of January and
the students can write about their goals and dreams. (See attached list for
monthly topics)
	Mrs. Deising also suggested pairing up each 6th grade student with a
kindergarten student as pen-pals. They can exchange letters throughout the
year, and then have a meet and greet in June.
	It was suggested to have a DROP EVERYTHING and WRITE time for the
entire school to give classes an opportunity to write about the monthly
topic. This idea will be discussed at the November faculty meeting.
	The next SLT meeting is scheduled for Wednesday November 18th at
2:45.
