| Character Education
Myers is dedicated to helping our students understand the importance and
value of good citizenship through character education. Our staff does this
informally and formally recognizing appropriate behavior and reciting
a "school pledge" daily which highlights the "word of the month" (respect,
honesty, cooperation, compassion, self-control, patience, etc.) Various
posters and banners are displayed throughout the school and in each
classroom. Helpful hints for parents to foster character education for the
children are sent home. Our teachers and support staff work hard every day
to integrated good citizenship into the curriculum.
This year, we are also going to have a monthly read-aloud that is connected
to the word of the month. Every student will have an opportunity to listen
to the same story and discuss the author's message and the importance of
good character. Various staff and students will visit the classroom to be
guest readers.
The following are the "Words of the Month":
September/ October Respect
November/ December Caring
January/ February Responsiblity
March/ April Trustworthiness
May Fairness
June Citizenship
