Jasmine Neal and Zoe Grier were selected to sing in the National Children's and Youth Honor Choir. The choir performed at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Conference in Chicago on March 12, 2011. Over 800 4th - 9th grade students across America auditioned for the 300 available spots. Members of the choir represent 37 states and Washington D.C., including 17 singers from New York.

Mr. Leck is rehearsing the choir in the Red Lacquer Room at the Palmer House Hotel.
Zoe sits to your left in the Alto I section, just about where the picture ends.
Jasmine sits to your right in the Soprano I section, well beyond the edge of this photo.

This is the 2nd time I saw Jasmine and Zoe today,
having just finished their evening rehearsal at 9:00 p.m.
They have been told to be in bed by 10:00 so they can be rested and ready for a full day tomorrow!

Even at 9:00 p.m. after a full day of rehearsal, Zoe and Jasmine were excited
to show me the choreography for their closing song, "Chicago."
(In the choir world, we sometimes call it "choralography.")

Here we are after lunch with our little Chicago rubber duckies!
They had to rush off to their afternoon rehearsal while I went to a session on conducting.

Here is the chorus just before the concert began.

The auditorium was as beautiful as it appeared in the picture I had found online (see below.)
The lights were very bright, so the white shirts and white "shells" behind them really reflected it.
Hopefully, I can get some better pictures later, but I wanted you to see SOMETHING for now.

AUDITORIUM THEATRE OF ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY
This is the beautiful 3,929 seat auditorium where the Honor Choir concerts will be held. For nearly 120 years, the Auditorium Theatre has evolved, each decade ushering in a new challenge, and a new voice. From the operatic glory of its inception to the rock-and-roll concerts of the 1960's and 70's, from a setting for the world's most legendary musicals to the greatest ballets, the Auditorium Theatre has adapted and grown.

Former Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William McKinley gave speeches where, years later, incandescent musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Aretha Franklin, and Elton John performed. Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles captivated audiences in the same space where Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera once played to sold-out crowds. Frank Sinatra, Itzhak Perlman, The Beach Boys and Booker T. Washington have all graced this stage.
