Homework

Because reading is crucial to a student's future academic success,
excelling in all reading skills is of paramount importance in second grade.
To this end, students will have a nightly assignment of reading aloud 20
minutes. Clear pronunciation, expressiveness, observing punctuation, and
excellent comprehension are skills to be fostered in each reading session.
Students who need additional practice should read 30-60 minutes each night.
If you would like help picking out books for your child's reading level, let
me know.
Math homework is also given each day. Side A is completed together as a
class, covering both review and new concepts. Side B should be finished and
checked at home before handed in the next morning. In this way mistakes will
be rectified immediately without practicing wrong concepts.
Spelling lists come home every Monday with the Bible memory verse also
noted. Practice spelling tests are given on Wednesdays to target words that
still need mastery. Spelling tests are given on Friday. The Bible verse for
the week should also be memorized by Friday.
