Parent/T eacher Communication
I believe that it is very important for parents and teachers to work together . I am easy to contact. You can call the school and leave a message for me or send me a note in your child's STAR folder. I will get back to you as soon as I can. Usually I call back the same day. I am also very responsive to email. There is a link to my email address on the upper right hand corner of the main page of this website. If that does not work for you, contact me at my work email address: yottavi@schools.gov.nyc
Home Folders (STAR Folders)
Your child has a home folder that I call their STAR (students are responsible) folder. These folders are a vital tool in parent/teacher communication and student responsibility. Inside the folder you will find notices and letters to you, checked homework, new homework and twice monthy quick report sheets. Please ask your child to see this folder every day or have them put mail for you in a a special place. Old homework should be taken out and when the folder comes back to school it should only contain mail for me and completed homework.
Absences
When a child is absent, they will find an absent sheet on their desk when they return. They will have the same number of days as they were absent to make up any missed homework. In other words, if they were out for 3 days , then they have 3 days to complete the missing work. Much of our classroom work cannot be completed at home (projects, group work, partner work...) so regular attendance is encouraged.
School Behavior Students are expected to follow the following 5 rules: Be responsible, be respectful, be kind, be honest, and be safe.
Late Policy Students are on time if they are on line with their class when I come to pick them up. If a student arrives in the classroom after we have come upstairs they are late. They usually have a late pass but if they don't I send them down to get one. I keep a detailed attendance spreadsheet and I save all the late passes. It's hard to come in to class when your clasmates have already begun their day. I apppreciate your efforts in bringing your child to school on time each day.
School Supplies The supply list is posted on this website. I realize that the list is long and I understand that it may be difficult bringing in supplies. I only ask that if you need to space out your purchases that you buy certain supplies first. It is really vital that your child have his/her notebooks and folders. This year we are asking each student to have a small box so that they can keep their own school supplies in their desks. As the year progresses, we will need to replenish our supply of kleenex. Be on the lookout for a letter from me requesting another box from each family.
Scholastic Book Orders Each year I participate in the Scholastic Book Club. The "Arrow" magazine will come home each month. Usually I call in the order 10 days after I give out the magazine. You are under no obligation to buy books! If you are interested in buying books for your child this magazine offers very good deals. I accept cash or checks. Checks must be made out to "Scholastic Book Clubs". Please put the order form (not the whole magazine), and your payment in an envelope with your child'sname on it. Make sure that your child's name is also on the order form.
Purple Test Folders
I return all assessments in a purple folder. The folder contains any recent assessments as well as a sheet to sign. Please go over the assessment with your child, sign the sheet and leave the assessment in the folder. The folder will be returned to you at the end of the year.
