What are some tips to help my child?
1. Provide a supportive environment for completing homework. Let
your child
know homework is to be completed and handed in, that you will
provide the
necessary time, space, and materials for completing homework, and
that you
will contact the team when there is a problem.
2. Buy your child a brightly colored accordion folder for homework
organization. Each section in the folder can be for each
subject. Instruct
your child to put assignment planner and any worksheets in folder
before
leaving school. All completed assignments are to be put in
folder, returned
to school, and brought to each class.
3. Call the school's homework hotline. Dial 744-2031. At the
prompt, dial 14,
then 6 for Eagles team.
4. Look at child's assignment planner and assignments daily.
5. Use this team web page. Address is:
http://www.teacherweb.com/ny/pinebush/goldeneagles
6. Give praise and other positive support when your child
completes homework
correctly. Just saying a few words about a job well done will do
wonders.
Provide your child with additional incentives, such as rewards
and privileges
if homework is completed to your satisfaction.
7. Provide consequences such as loss of a privilege if your child
does not do
homework. You need to back up your words with action. Losing a
privilege
like TV, computer, iPod, or cell phone if homework is not done
may be needed
to let your child know you mean business.
8. Set up mandatory homework time. If your child frequently
forgets to bring
homework, require him or her to read a book or do some other
academic
activity. Soon the message will be clear that bringing homework
home is a
priority.
9. Contact us. Call individual teachers or call Mrs. Cavanagh to
set up an
appointment at 744-2031 x5600. Or e-mail Mrs. Cavanagh at:
acavanagh@pinebushschools.org
How will the team let me know how my child is doing?
We will send you periodic e-mails to remind you to check grades on
engrade.com.
Can or should my child be put on weekly reports?
With the engrade.com system, paper weekly reports are no
longer needed
because you can check your child's grades at any time from any
computer that
accesses the Internet. If you do NOT have access to the
Internet, paper
weekly reports are still an option if it is decided upon by all
as necessary.
