Do all students at Quogue School have computer class?

Yes, every student has a dedicated computer class. Pre K-6 attend class twice a week.

Do the children learn to type?

Students in grades 3-6 have ten minutes of typing practice at the start of class.

Do the students play games?

All programs in the computer lab are educationally sound. Many have a game format which appeals 
to students. Older programs have a drill and practice format with increasing difficulty, such as
Master Guru and Key Skills.

What type of computers are available for Quogue School students?

Grades Pre K through fifth grade utilize the Apple Macintosh platform. Sixth grade students 
utilize Lenovo laptops with XP Operating System.

Young children start school as visual learners, gaining skills in reading and comprehension as
they attend school. The Macintosh platform is graphical in nature, intuitive in operation and
simple for children to use. The computers come with user friendly software such as: the iLife and
iWork suite of programs (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Keynote, Numbers), iTunes,
which are native to OSX. These programs provide our students with an advantage in the
expression of their learning.

The sixth grade class learn how to use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel, the Internet, and
may participate in online class assignments.

Are the children protected, while on the Internet?

Quogue School utilizes a physical server Firewall to filter Internet access for students. As much as 
the system can be protected, students are prevented from going to websites that are considered
unsuitable for young learners.

What happens if a student purposefully enters a questionable website?

After it has been determined that a student purposefully entered a questionable website, the 
student is denied Internet access until his or her parents are notified and a parent meeting is held.
