Hello Everyone!

I hope you have all had a great summer! I have had a busy summer filled with
many changes! I am looking forward to working with your child in second
grade! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

I hope that you and your child have had the opportunity to read over the
summer. Below is just a reminder of some of the things that your child will
do in school when reading a story.

It is very important for your child to have someone sit with him/her and ask
questions while he/she is reading to be sure he/she is understanding what is
going on in the story. Some examples of questions would be:

"What is the problem?"
"How does the problem get solved?"
"Who are the main characters?"
"How does the story end?"
"What happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story?"
*Have your child tell you his or her favorite part and why he/she liked it.

These are just a few examples of some of the questions you could ask.
Predicting what might happen in the story is also an important skill for your
child.

See you soon!
